Playwright. Producer. Performer. Consultant.

Amarantha is a Jamaican writer, performer, producer and arts ecology consultant whose work shares sacred stories of her Indigenous American and West African ancestry, through a modern lens. With her movement practice, proclivity for research and lyrical writing style, she creates plays rich in Afro-Caribbean mysticism and history that pulse with song, dance and drumming.

Her work expresses and supports the agency of the Black Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) to tell their stories on their terms. She has led events and arts programs for MAV (Multicultural Arts Victoria), Malthouse Theatre, Darebin, Wyndham City Councils, Quiet Riot Creative and Arts Centre Melbourne. Her theatre shows are all original productions, born out of her spiritual connection to her ancestral story and song lines and desire to see more Black bodies and stories on stage in Australia.

As  writer, she amplifies stories from her Caribbean culture and West African and Indigenous American ancestral lineage. She was selected for La Mama Theatre’s Pathways Writers Program (2023), Malthouse Theatre’s Besen writer’s program (2023) and Melbourne Theatre Company Cybec Electric (2025).

Her one-woman show "Oshun", about the Yoruba goddess of love, femininity and fertility had sold-out seasons at La Mama theatre (2024) a successful regional Victoria tour (2026).  Her ensemble play "ILARUN: The Cutting Comb" had a critically acclaimed season at fortyfivedownstairs (2024). Her dramatic script "River Mumma and The Golden Table" has a presentation at Melbourne Theatre Company (2025). Her work has been supported by The City of Melbourne, Wyndham City Council, Bendigo City Council and Creative Australia.  She is a mentor for emerging playwrights through programs at Arts Centre Melbourne and La Mama Theatre.  She is a 2026 Wheeler Centre Hot Desk Fellow.

As an enigmatic creative leader and facilitator, she leads workshops that help people own their origin story through an interactive ancestral artistic methodology. She consults on cultural and creative programming and  ecology.
